My 9 Year Old Used This Blanket to Save Our House From Burning Down. This Is Why Every Family Needs One…

Mar 10 2023 - C. Klinefelter

No Exceptions.

It’s the scariest thing in the world knowing your child is in danger.

And I had a front row seat to see what could have been the moment my son was taken from me.

About 3 months ago, my house almost burned down and I wasn’t home.

House on Fire

I was teaching my son a family recipe, while my husband was on a business trip.

It was a Carbonara recipe, but a traditional Carbonara from Rome.

We were close to the next step in the recipe when I realized we were missing two of the ingredients I needed.

I needed to go to the store which was about 3 minutes away to grab what I needed and come back.

I told my son to watch the pot of pasta and stir every 2 minutes until they were al dente.

My Sweetheart’s Quite The Little Chef Too.

He’s been cooking recipes with me for about 2 years now, so he definitely knows when pasta is al dente. He loves to cook.

And I wasn’t worried about leaving him home alone for such a short period of time. He’s been home alone for longer. He'd be fine, he’s a smart kid.

Plus, we have security cameras in our house that stream in real-time to an app on my husband's phone. One of the cameras pointed to the kitchen so I could keep an eye on him while I was away.

So I went to the store, got what I needed, and I headed back home.

I opened the security camera app to check on him and everything seemed fine, until I looked a little closer

My son had just stirred the pasta, and walked away.

And about a second later a box of pasta fell over and a piece of it was laying on the burner.

I Watched That Box Catch Fire.

And I watched those flames creep along the box.

Until it reached another burner.

That burner had grease on it from when we cooked the bacon just minutes before I left.

That burner caught fire and the pan that had the bacon in it caught fire too because there was still some grease in the pan.

It Erupted Into Flames Instantly.

Kitchen Stove on Fire

It was like watching something out of a movie.

A chain of events that happened so quickly and in just the right order.

When I saw that box catch fire my heart felt like it was about to burst through my chest.

My Son Was In Serious Danger And I Wasn’t There To Save Him.

I kept the video on and put the phone on the phone holder in my car so I could see if my son was safe or not.

And I drove the fastest that I had ever driven in my entire life. Like a Nascar driver at Daytona.

As I was racing home I saw my son, on camera, see the fire.

He did this little frightened jump. Like what a cat does when you startle it, and then he immediately started searching for something.

And I knew exactly what he was looking for.

He opened the cabinet next to the stove and found our Emergency Fire Blanket.

Emergency Fire Blanket

He opened it up, draped it over the fire, and that was it…

He Put The Fire Out.

In that short car ride home, I went from thinking I was going to lose my son and my house, to catching a glimpse into the smart, capable, brave man I knew he would grow up to be.

I was so proud.

And so relieved.

I felt like I was going to have a heart attack…

And then…

I watched him try to hide the evidence.

I was about 2 minutes from the house and he was racing to hide any trace of a fire.

And that reminded me that he's still a 9 year old.

When I got home I walked in and acted like nothing happened.

He was a little out of breath after hiding everything, but he acted like nothing happened.

So we both played it off.

And we finished cooking. The Carbonara was a success despite the fire earlier.

Carbnara on a dinner table

Once we sat down at the table, right before he was about to take his first bite, I told him I saw the fire.

I watched the whole thing on camera and I almost had a heart attack.

He thought he was in trouble.

I told him he wasn’t, it was an accident, accidents happen, but we need to be much more careful when we cook.

We need to make sure we move things away from the stove if we aren’t using them.

He told me his harrowing experience with the fire as only a 9 year old boy could.

He told me he couldn’t remember where the blanket was, but as soon as he found it, he said it was super easy to use.

And he told me how he felt like a superhero putting that fire out..

And that was it.

Crisis averted.

My Son Lived, The House Is Still Standing, And We Had A Great Dinner.

And that’s why I’m telling you this.

Because without that blanket…

This story would have gone very differently.

You see, we have a fire extinguisher, but it’s too heavy for my son to use correctly and he could barely pull the pin on his own.

It’s a full size extinguisher, and for some reason the pin is very hard to pull.

Fire Extinguisher

So we needed something that was easier. That a kid could use. Because my son would need to protect himself if something went wrong, like it did while we were cooking.

So my husband and I did our research when we stumbled upon the blanket we have now.

But before finding ours though, we came across a couple of others.

Some were made with questionable materials, others couldn’t withstand hot enough temperatures, and the rest just looked really cheap.

But then we found the one that saved our son that day.

It had thousands of 5-Star Reviews with people raving about how incredible it was.

It’s Called The Emergency Fire Blanket, And It’s Made By A Company Called Prepared Hero.

There really isn’t a reason not to get one for your family, even if you have a fire extinguisher.
